Anne McIlvenny

I have been married for 19 years and have 2 sons aged 15years and 11 years old. My 15 year old son was diagnosed with High Functioning Autism at age 11 years. I first came in contact with PAPA in December, 2002, when my son was diagnosed.

In February 2003, I, along with 2 other parents helped set up PAPA, Mid-Ulster Branch. I have been secretary of this local branch for 4 years. In 2004 I joined PAPA Council Forum. In 2006 I became a member of the Board.

MY VISION FOR AUTISM – Access to appropriate services for the individual with Autism, along with education and training of, not only parents/carers and professionals living and working with Autism but the wider community in Northern Ireland. This will enable the individual with Autism to reach his / her full potential and help them become valued members of their community.

As a parent I believe Autism NI PAPA have been visionary in their work for Autism.  As a member of Autism NI I believe we will achieve a Northern Ireland Autism Act.  With this, my son along with other individuals living with Autism in Northern Ireland will have their future rights protected – social justice – A BRAND NEW BEGINNING FOR ALL.
