Diane Heyburn
PEN PICTURE
My name is Diane Heyburn and I am presently the Treasurer of Autism NI. I am married to David and have two children, David Jnr & Rebekah.
My involvement with Autism NI is as a parent and goes back to 1995 when our son was diagnosed with ASD and severe learning difficulties. David is now almost 16 years old and quickly heading towards adulthood. Little did I think that 12 years on from my first visit to the office in a desperate search for information and support that I would become so involved in the work of the Charity.
Since David’s diagnosis I have been a member if the Belfast Support Group and have held a committee post for approximately 10 years. As with most committees one thing lead to another and I became a counsel member and then a board member. And as they say the rest is history.
As part of my role within in the branch and through the board I have had the privilege of representing the Charity at many functions/events & meetings. The most memorable of these has been recent visits to Westminster and Cardiff as part of the political lobby. Although these meetings have been wonderful and awe inspiring the part of my time spent in meeting other parents and their children is what keeps my enthusiasm going. The work of the charity makes a difference to so many lives and I hope to continue working with Autism NI for many years to come.
