Political lobbying using the tactic of letter writing is fast becoming
one of the most influential means of getting your campaign message across.
This is because when you send a signed letter by post, by email, or by fax,
to a specific government official or civil servant, it has to be acknowledged.
Using this tactic, quantity is the essential factor. One letter signed by 50 people will not have the same impact as 50 individually signed letters. A Government minister whose views need to be changed regarding a particular strategy or piece of legislation is more likely to be swayed by being told he has received 100 letters from the public rather than just one – no matter how many people have signed it.
